it's all about the 4th graders

Wednesday marked a big celebration day for fourth graders. They spent their entire morning enjoying a READ-A-THON where they listened to stories from various teachers, put on Reader's Theatre skits, and just relaxed in the Reading Room with their favorite pillow and book by their side. They even did an activity where they figured out how many words they read individually throughout the school year - many students were in the MILLIONS! As a whole, they achieved a phenomenal feat of 3,316 total Accelerated Reading points - a HUGE accomplishment and new record! Mrs. Wesson and I are so proud of their accomplishments. It is such a wonderful sight to see them snuggled with a good book!

Way to go Fourth Grade! Your party pics are coming soon!!

3rd grade library party

Day 2 of our library celebrations was geared toward the mighty 3rd graders. In third grade, students need to take Accelerated Reading tests on the books they read and receive points based on their performance. For every two Accelerated Reader points they earn, they received one sticker for their banana. During the last few weeks, our fun Readingopoly Game was introduced to these eager readers....they enjoyed the game so much that we are having it available for our Summer Reading Program for students in grades 4-8 so they can continue their success throughout the summer months!

This year Gryphon was our high point champion for the third grade! He was so excited and had no trouble spending his well earned tickets! Congratulations Gryphon - you did an amazing job! He will get his biiiig container of Skittles at the end of the week with his new t-shirt!

Here are some fun pics from today's party:

1st grade library celebration

Can it be? The end of the year is finally here? To celebrate, the library is full of laughter, parties, and prizes this week! Students in grades K-5 will participate in their end of the year library celebrations! Throughout the last few months, our Leland readers have worked very hard collecting stickers for their bananas displayed in the library. Then, to reward them for their achievements, they will receive tickets based on their reading progress.

Today first grade took the plate as our first group of party animals. In first grade, kiddos take home SKOOBMARKS (aka book logs). After reading their library book(s) with their mom or dad, each child brings their signed Skoobmark back for their sticker.

Many students in first grade took advantage of visiting the library on Monday Nights where they received extra Skoobmarks for the extra books they checked out. All in all, our little first graders made wonderful progress and we are very proud of all they books they have read this school year!

A big CONGRATULATIONS to LUKE! He was our big winner this year for total stickers totaling 112! Way to go Luke! We are so proud of you! Luke will receive a biiiiig container of m&ms at the end of the week and a fun t-shirt to wear this summer!

Party in the Library - part 1

I have So many pictures still to share from our Dr. Seuss Party! The pictures I'm sharing tonight show three of our game/activities. Each station represented a well loved story from Dr. Seuss. Students were divided in groups and visited each station for about 10 minutes. Up first - Green Eggs and Ham. For this book we played "Pin the Green Egg on the Plate". Students were blindfolded and given an egg to try their hat at the game. For station two - Once Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. At this station, we played a variation of "Shut the Box". Students used dice to win yummy rainbow goldfish. Next up was a station inspired by The Cat in the Hat. Mrs. Haag had kiddos color their own striped hat to wear during the party. Three stations down - four to go. Stay tuned for the rest!
